6 The Reporter — Issue #2, 2018 The Distinguished Service Chapter An award was established in 1966 by the then Supreme Executive Board, now the International Executive Board (IEB), known as the Distinguished Service Chapter (DSC). The DSC is composed of members of the Fraternity who have been selected in recognition of unusual and outstanding service to the Fraternity. With selections made unanimously by the IEB, election is the highest honor awarded by the Fraternity. Congratulations to the following 2018 inductees on receiving this well-deserved honor. Melody Crick Peters Melody joined the Truman Chapter at Seattle University School of Law, where she served as Marshal, Vice Justice, and u l t i m a t e l y J u s t i c e . I n 2 0 0 4 , Melody received third place in the Alex A. Hotchkiss Outstanding Chapter Justice award. She passed the Washington State Bar Exam in 2004 and was appointed District I Justice in March 2005. Melody was recognized at both the 2010 Convention and the 2015 Leadership Summit with the Stan Jones Outstanding District Justice Award. At the 2014 Convention, Melody was awarded the Meritorious Service Award. She also attended P.A.D. Day at the Supreme Court of the U.S. on June 1, 2015 and was sworn in to the Supreme Court Bar. Joseph E. Deems Joseph E. Deems attended Southwestern University School of Law where, in 1971, he was initiated into the Sammis Chapter. Upon his initiation, he was elected chapter Justice, and served as Clerk the following year. Brother Deems served as District III Justice from 1974–1978, when he was elected to the position of Chief Tribune of the International Tribunal. In 1982, Joe was elected to the International Executive Board as International Marshal. Thereafter, he served as International Historian, International Treasurer, International Secretary, International Advocate, International Board Member At Large, International Advocate, International Vice Justice, and, in 1998, was elected International Justice. Robert Schimmel Robert Schimmel was initiated into the Richmond A. Rasco Chapter in his first year at the University of Miami School of Law. He served as Rasco's Vice Justice and Justice. In his third year, the chapter unanimously elected him Justice Emeritus. Bob was a founding member of the South Dade County Alumni Chapter and served as its initial Justice. He served from 1986–1992 as District Justice for the State of Florida (then District 20). In 1992, Bob was elected to the position of International Associate Tribune where he served until 1996 when he was elected to the position of International Chief Tribune. He served as Chief Tribune from 1996 to 2006. Brother Schimmel was presented with the Fraternity's Meritorious Service Award recognizing a lifetime of dedication and service to P.A.D. Larry Crigler In 1968, Larry Crigler joined t h e H o f f m a n C h a p t e r a t t h e Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He attended the 1970 Biennial Convention in New Orleans as a student, where he was the recipient of a P.A.D. Service Scholarship. He served as Clerk, then Justice of Hoffman Chapter. Larry was a District Justice from 1972–1976 when he was elected to the International Executive Board where he served until 1990—serving as International Justice from 1988–90. While on the IEB, he served as President of P.A.D. Public Service Center and Chairman of the Endowment Loan Committee. He has attended 24 P.A.D. Conventions and has served as Chairman of the Credential Committee, Constitution and By-Law Committee, and Nominating Committee, among others.
