Issue #3, 2018 — The Reporter 13 APUS Pre-Law Chapter: Strength in Uniqueness By April Cuthbertson Carter (APUS Pre-Law Chapter Vice Justice) Like many other chapters of Phi Alpha Delta, the American Public University System (APUS) Pre-Law Chapter proudly displays P . A . D . p r i d e i n o u r b e l o v e d fraternity. However, our chapter has a uniqueness that some may see as a constraint, but we see as a strength. APUS is a completely o n l i n e i n s t i t u t i o n . A l t h o u g h the chapter members may be geographically separated, we are as close as ever fraternally. Carrying on P.A.D.'s traditions and core values of integrity, compassion, courage, professionalism, service, diversity, and innovation is not lost on our chapter, as members a r e c o n s i s t e n t l y i n v o l v e d i n personal development and seeking advancement for all of society. Being an online university does not limit us to supporting just the local communities around the school like a brick and mortar university might; we are able to get involved with many different communities around the country and in some cases, around the world. Through the efforts of our members that serve in the armed forces, we are able to support the P.A.D. mission of advancing integrity, compassion and courage through service to the student, the school, the profession and the community in many ways internationally. Holding regular meetings and maintaining communication with our executive board, faculty advisors, and general members helps us accomplish our goals and keep our chapter strong. This was perfectly displayed when our mock trial team placed 8th overall in the 2018 P.A.D. Pre-Law national Mock Trial Competition. That would not have been possible without the d e d i c a t i o n o f o u r m e m b e r s , expertise of the faculty advisors, and consistent communication. Communication has assisted us greatly as we explore alternative philanthropic opportunities such as the Virtual Strides campaign that we are currently involved in to support the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Striving for betterment, we will continue upholding our institutional and fraternity core v a l u e s . H o s t i n g m a n y g u e s t speakers from a wide range of disciplines help our members in their decisions about the future. De ve lop ing our me mbe rs as they transition into law schools throughout the country or into another profession is something we hold highly, as we are helping to mold the law practitioners and leaders of the tomorrow. Spreading P.A.D. Pride is what we do! Lusk Chapter at Willamette Law reached their goal of sending 21 stockings to send overseas as a part of Stockings for Soldiers; an organization that helps improve the morale and welfare of deployed members of the U.S. armed forces.
