Houston Chapter Continued from page 35. and recruited even more students. The focused message of 'Why should you join PAD?,' the Square, our increased visibility and our EC's availability in the office has helped us kick off this semester to a great start. We also focused on fraternity traditions and implemented them exactly as the initiation ritual manual instructed, including the candles, red carnations, and specific dressing of the table. We extended an invitation to recent alumni, and were excited to have several join for the occasion. Our faculty advisor, Professor Mark Siegel, attended and participated by reading the alumnus part during the ceremony. Brandyn Butler, our new District Justice, also participated. After the close of the ceremony we hosted a catered reception on-site that provided a great atmosphere for new members to get to know current members and network with the alumni. We are committed to meeting the needs of our current members, recruiting new members and being pillars of our local community. This semester we are excited to offer our current members an Academic Advising seminar, focusing on final exam strategies, and plan to build more programs like this into our schedule. Service and community outreach also remain a priority of our Chapter and we will participate in two fundraising events this semester, one with the local zoo and one benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Houston. We are also working to increase the Chapter presence citywide by hosting alumni networking opportunities and socials for members. Our EC has done a wonderful job growing our Chapter by staying organized, streamlining processes and using innovative ideas to recruit new members and build a culture of success in our current members. We are so excited about the growth of our Chapter and are looking forward to the next step in this journey. Take all ideas seriously. 46 The Reporter Fall 2013 — Growing & Innovating Continued from page 34. However, WSAC is not the only Alumni Chapter to initiate with cutting edge ideas. One of the latest trends among Alumni Chapters is to put big group dinners on the back burner and plan events that cater to members' hobbies and interest. In addition to serving its road trip minded members with "The Invasions," the Chapter has set up several other "special interest groups" like the P.A.D. Running Club and the P.A.D. Society for the Arts. The Twin Cities Alumni Chapter has also created small group activities including their "Motion to Strike" bowlers and P.A.D. Foodies. Many Alumni Chapters have planned events that span a period of a whole weekend. For example, San Francisco Alumni Chapter organizes an annual wine tasting weekend while the Knoxville Alumni Chapter held a Dollywood excursion this past summer. Early in this article a charge was made that becoming a member of Phi Alpha Delta is a lifelong commitment. So perhaps the bond of fraternalism is strong enough to compel us to get together for a few drinks and enjoy each other's company. However, to really adhere to oath and to the call of the Fraternity, Alumni Chapters must be more. Alumni Chapters need to continually grow and change with the times. Chapters must adapt to members likes and dislikes. Chapters must remain strong in principle but flexible with the changing times. Most importantly Alumni Chapters must continue to adopt new ideas and technology with a passion so Phi Alpha Delta remains strong. St. Johns University Pre-Law St. Johns University Pre-Law Chapter hosted their spring Leadership Symposium and a great fall recruitment!
