4 The Reporter — Issue #2, 2017 A Message from the Executive Director Brother Andrew Sagan (Robert E. Redding Alumni Chapter) The recent hurricanes and wildfires, as well as other world- wide events, have affected dozens of P.A.D. chapters. While dozens doesn't sound like an enormous number, it represents thousands of students and tens of thousands of our alumni—all our brothers and sisters. We have been monitoring our chapters and members throughout these events to make sure everyone is safe. Stories of members losing their homes, disruption of their lives, and loss of friends and family have been heartbreaking. T h r o u g h t h i s h e a r t b r e a k w e look to our P.A.D. core values of courage, compassion, service, integrity, innovation, diversity and professionalism to help us cope. In the next two editions of The Reporter we will feature chapters' and members' acts of heroism that epitomize our mission and live up to our core values. We would love to be able to share with you all of the stories we hear and have heard over the years. What I have personally have learned about my fellow Phi Alpha Delta brothers and sisters over the last 18 years is that we are made of a collection of strong, vibrant, and dedicated souls. I am lucky to have seen so many of our members positively affect others lives. Whether it's lending a helping hand to an individual in need or crafting laws and influencing the way others think—the stories are many. To be cut from the same cloth is a colloquialism that I sometimes refer to about our brother and sisterhood. Helping others just to help not expecting anything in return. Rising to the occasion when others don't. Aspiring to motivate others for the sake of inspiration. These selfless personal values reflect on our membership as a whole. As we go along together as a fraternity, we will constantly face challenges. All kinds—personal, local, global. As they occur, keep in mind our core values, motto and mission and know your fraternity holds you in its collective heart. We have many new members joining the ranks of P.A.D. each day, they have chosen to be a part of our amazing family. It may be simple, but together we will make the world a better place. See page 8 in this issue to learn about P.A.D. Core Values icons and look for them throughout each issue.
