Grace Magazine | www.fbcglenarden.org 11 Detroit Mission's Trip By Taylor Clayborne The Detroit Mission's Trip was a very eye opening experience for me. If it hadn't been for God's Love I don't think I would have chosen to go on this trip; but because God has given me the opportunity to travel and experience the different cultures in Europe and Western Canada, this was an excellent opportunity for me to have a chance to give back to a community in my own country. Although Detroit has gone through many obstacles and devastations, the community and its citizens still have hope and faith. Many of the people we worked with have lived in the city for more than 10 years and have seen their city go from one thing to another. It was humbling for me to see that no matter how many stereotypes posed against them, this community not only has faith in their city but they also have faith in the true and living God. To see that all the people we helped were grateful for something that was so small, like painting the garage or fixing a porch. It was even more humbling to see that the people in the communities were even more grateful to see not only adults helping them but seeing eight youth helping as well. This showed me to never judge a book by its cover. On this trip God was able to work through me physically and mentally. I went on this trip with the mindset of Detroit being nasty, yucky and unappealing. With God's love at the end of the trip I realized that Detroit was far from what I described it to be and I was able to travel there and come back home safely. This experience has impacted me in such way, that while you may have obstacles in your life if you have faith there is nothing impossible with God's love.
